dryer sheets

dryer sheets

I was recently looking for ways to help with my son’s awful and embarrassing foot odor. It is really bad, so bad, in fact, that I have had to replace his shoes with more frequency that I would normally have to due to just normal growth or wear and tear, which is getting costly. I’ve tried sprays and powders, and it helps a little, but not enough, and I’m still left with needing to replace the shoes, plus the sprays and powders aren’t cheap either.

This quest has taken me on a bizarre path. I have found that dryer sheets have a multitude of uses, more than I ever imagined. Yes, I said dryer sheets. It’s amazing how something we usually have around the house can be so beneficial in so many ways. Below you’ll find a list of ways to use these handy little sheets outside of the dryer.

  • In your shoes – back to my original quest, I discovered that just by putting a single sheet in each shoe, his foot odor/shoe odor is improving drastically, and dryer sheets are so much cheaper than the powders and sprays and definitely cheaper than new shoes!
  • Needlepoint – just run your needle and thread through a dryer sheet and it helps to keep your thread from sticking and kinking while you do your needlepoint.
  • Do you have static cling?  Just rub the dryer sheet over the problem area and problem solved.
  • Cleaning your iron – just run your hot iron over a dryer sheet a few times until the residue that has built up on the iron plate is gone.
  • Okay, this next one is for the used dryer sheets (recycling yay!).  Sprinkle a few drops of water on a used dryer sheet and use it to help clean soap scum off your shower door.  Seriously!

Do you have any hidden uses for dryer sheets or any other common household item that has hidden and mysterious uses or powers?  :D

  1. Ok I know this will sound odd (and it has nothing to do with dryer sheets) Toss stinky shoes into a big ziplock bag (or two) and toss in the freezer….it worked for my foot odor

  2. I’ll try it! Thanks! :D

I have to add, I came home from a screening for a movie, horribly exhausted from being up most of last night and all day today working on my blog, and I read that as “toss stinky toes into a big ziplock bag … and toss in the freezer” Seriously!!! LOL! I think I’m losing it!

  3. Thanks for the tips! I’ve used dryer sheets to clean off soap scum before, but that was the only one I knew.

  4. Susan Johnson says:

I had no idea it would actually REMOVE iron residue, or soap scum… definitely going to try it, so much better than scrubbing scratches into those surfaces!

  5. Here in Vegas, we all hate wearing sucks. Lot’s of stinky shoes. I actually keep a box of dryer sheets in the shoe nook during the summer.
